Whitstable – seafood, seaside, sunsets and sugared donuts

My parents are in the UK at the moment, visiting from Cambodia for a few weeks, so I thought I would take a couple of days off to see them whilst they were staying in Whitstable. 

I haven’t been in my adulthood so can’t remember a thing about it but it was such a cute little place. What with this heat wave too, it actually felt like a mini summer break!

In all honesty, we didn't do that much, except taking lazy strolls along the beach and enjoy the glorious weather! 

The beach and harbour is small with plenty of local and family run restaurants and independent shops so it makes a great little spot for a few days away from the city to relax and unwind. Although my trip accidentally turned into a bit of a food fest!

We had a brilliant lunch at the “windy corner stores and café” right near the summer flat which dished up wholesome, homemade food that was full of flavour, served by the friendliest staff. It had a small store too, so I came home with vanilla tea and a local ale for the Boy.

Tuesday night I couldn't decide what to have, the menu was too tempting, so had a variety of starters - whitebait, prawns, fresh crab - at the “crab and winkle”, accompanied by a vegetable I have never heard of, "samphire"(also known as a “sea asparagus”) and oysters for the first time (blogged this delight yesterday!)

Fish and chips on the sea front is obviously a must when you are by the sea, so I couldn pass by without a little nibble! Me and mum couldn't resist the tempting smells of the fresh sugared donuts either, so we treated ourselves to a few of those and the lovely man on the sea front gave me a few more for luck!

The weather was perfect and allowed us to stay outside until the late evening, gazing at the sun set and watching the locals. It has such a relaxed vibe and I could have easily sat and watched the nothingness in the horizon for hours!

We stayed in a gorgeous little summer flat, the "Sail Away apartment" bookable through Whitstable Holiday Homes.

I would definitely recommend this as a self-catering place to stay. The beds were so comfy and the living room was light and airy with sky TV and books/dvds for you to borrow. A gorgeous summer stay.

It was just a few minute’s walk from the harbour and main high street too so a perfect location and fully equipped with everything you could possibly need.

A short lived trip but a great way to enjoy the weather and catch up with the parents!
